If you suspect that your car or truck may need an alternator, battery or starter; there are several tests that need to be conducted in order to ensure that the problem has been pinpointed.
- Load test the battery
- Load test the alternator
- Check all belts for proper tension and condition
- Check for loose or corroded wire connectors
- Check for the proper voltage/voltage regulator issues
It is important to pinpoint the problem as soon as possible. A faulty alternator will put added stress on your battery which could shorten its life, likewise a battery that is not storing the proper charge will place a strain on the alternator and may affect engine performance. In fact either low or high voltage may damage you vehicle’s engine control computer. If your vehicle is showing signs such as slow starter speed, dim or varying lights, or the battery light is on.
